Slingit today announced the introduction of its AI Sidekick for gun stores, a new applied AI system designed to help federally licensed firearms dealers (FFLs) improve how they evaluate and buy used firearms. Built specifically for licensed retailers, Slingit supports faster appraisals, greater consistency at the counter, and more confident decision-making—without replacing human judgment or existing retail systems.

Used firearms are one of the highest-margin yet most operationally complex parts of firearms retail. Appraisals often depend on individual employee experience and fragmented research, leading to inconsistent offers, prolonged negotiations, customer walkaways, and lost inventory opportunities. Slingit addresses these challenges by acting as a digital teammate at the gun counter, supporting store employees with AI-assisted workflows while keeping all final decisions with the licensed dealer.

“Slingit was created after seeing how difficult it can be for gun stores to buy and sell used firearms efficiently and consistently,” said Walt Geer, Founder and CEO of Slingit. “The used gun business is often the lifeblood of independent gun stores, yet the way it’s run hasn’t really changed in decades. We set out to streamline and modernize it, and the results we’ve seen so far in beta have been very promising.”

Slingit is establishing a new category, the AI Sidekick, built specifically for brick-and-mortar firearms retailers in the United States. Designed to work alongside store employees as a digital teammate at the counter, Slingit supports better decision-making in real time without replacing human judgment or existing retail systems.

The Slingit AI Sidekick is delivered on a dedicated mobile device as part of the subscription, designed for shared use by store employees and supported by an online analytics dashboard. The FFL version of Slingit is not available through public app stores.

“We think of the AI Sidekick as more akin to staffing augmentation than software,” said Nic DiChiara, Co-Founder and CTO of Slingit. “It gives store employees access to expertise that most gun stores simply can’t afford to staff full time, and it keeps improving as it’s used.”

The Slingit platform initially focuses on the buying side of the used firearm workflow. The system accurately identifies used firearms, accessories, and options, and has been tuned to apply consistent condition grading to support clearer, more defensible valuations. By providing a data-backed view of what a firearm is worth in today’s market, Slingit removes subjectivity from appraisals and helps employees confidently explain value to customers resulting in less haggling and fewer walkaways.

Slingit also supports compliance-oriented workflows by helping stores accurately capture firearm details such as make, model, variant, and serial numbers with regulatory responsibility remaining entirely with the FFL.

Slingit has been in stealth, developed and refined through an extended beta program with independent and multi-location firearms retailers, and is now open to federally licensed firearms dealers nationwide.

The company is actively developing additional capabilities beyond buying workflows, including tools for used-firearm listings, online selling workflows, and deeper performance insights, recommendations, and coaching for store owners and managers.
